Episode 203: "Hush Little Baby"
Season Two of the Black Tapes just started a few weeks back, and it has already hit its stride. That's an encouraging sign for a show that took a few months to really get going last season, and listeners have every reason to expect great things. This week starts with some punchy groundwork that flows so well it barely registers as such. This is a show that played the narrative long game super well last season, so it's nice to know the writers are staying true to form. As a result of overwork and sleep deprivation, both Strand and Reagan appear to be loosening their usually airtight grips on reality. Reliably, Nic Silver serves as the (necessary?) skeptic (wet blanket), which, for followers of his Tanis podcast, has to seem a little double-standardy. This is the guy who literally described seeing shadow beasts last week on his own show. Maybe give Reagan a little leeway when she believes a "ghost" voice recording, Mr. High Horse. The shit hits the fan as the episode closes, which is both effective and super cheesy. The good people at Pacific Northwest Stories never met a cliché they didn't like. Solid episode, though.
NOTE: This episode was actually released last week, but the Black Tapes only releases episodes every other week. So, it still counts? #sorrynotsorry
